Mughlai Dal

Ingredients:

  • Tuvar dal or arhar dal (pigeon lentils): 3/4 cup
  • Chana dal (split bengal gram): 1/4 cup
  • Chopped lauki (bottle gourd): 1/4 cup
  • Oil: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Butter: 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon stick: 1
  • Dry red chili(sabut chili): 1
  • Cardamom: 2
  • Clove: 2
  • Chopped onion: 3 tablespoon
  • Chopped garlic: 1 & 1/2 teaspoon
  • Bay leave: 1
  • Chopped ginger; 1 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chili powder: 1 & 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
  • Dry coriander powder: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Garam masala: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice: 1 & 1/2 teaspoon
  • Curd(yogurt)/ Fresh cream; 2 tablespoon
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing.

Cooking time: 15 minutes

Preparation:

  • Wash both dals properly and add salt, turmeric powder, lauki and 3 cup water and pressure cook for 2 whistle.
  • Heat oil and butter together then add cumin seeds, bay leaves, whole red chilies, cardamom and clove.
  • Sauté for few minutes and add garlic and chopped ginger. Cook till golden brown in color.
  • Add onions, cook till onions are transparent. Add cooked dal, salt, red chili powder, dry coriander powder, garam masala and lemon juice and boil for 5 minutes.
  • Beat curd/fresh cream properly and add in dal. Garnish with fresh chopped coriander leaves.
